Financial Consolidation of Health Insurance and Future Issues

Korea¢¥s health insurance has developed at a speed that can not be compared to that of any other nation in the world, and it is a fact that much progress has been made. Currently, Koreas health Insurance reforms are quickly being prepared for the changing social environment. One of the recent movement is the financial consolidation of health insurance which was started from the July 1st of 2003. This research examined the process and the effects of financial consolidation and addressed the future issues to tackle based on the results of this study. The results of this study indicates that the 1st and 2nd consolidation positively increased the equity of health insurance between the employee and self-employed societies. Also the effects of health insurance integration proved that the reduction of operational costs, expansion of benefits, decreasing of manpower. Finally, this paper suggests that in order to make the financial consolidation more meaningful, a direct method would be to unify the system of imposing contribution.
